Clinic Director of Somnus Psychology: Psychologist, Chloe Stone

Somnus Psychology was founded and is led by Chloe Stone, a Hobart based psychologist with a strong interest in the intersection between mental health, sleep, and neurobiological approaches to care. Chloe works with adults and young people experiencing concerns such as insomnia, anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, and difficulties with mood, cognition, and emotional regulation.

Based in Hobart, Tasmania, Chloe brings a background that bridges both psychology and medicine. She has worked in a range of clinical settings including private practice, neurodevelopmental assessment services, and neuropsychiatry research environments. This has shaped a thoughtful, integrative approach to mental health care that considers both psychological and biological contributors to distress.

Chloe has particular experience and interest in therapies involving neuromodulation, including transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). She has completed specialised training in these areas and has worked clinically in neuromodulation services supporting people with depression and complex mood presentations, including those who have not responded to standard treatments. This has led to a longer term vision for Somnus Psychology to expand into evidence based neuromodulation pathways for conditions such as treatment-resistant depression.

A central focus of Chloe’s work is sleep. She has a strong interest in the treatment of insomnia and sleep disturbance, and plans to offer structured CBT-i, or cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia, programs through Somnus Psychology. CBT-i is considered the first-line, evidence based treatment for chronic insomnia and is highly effective for people who struggle with falling asleep, staying asleep, early morning waking, or anxiety about sleep. This interest grew from seeing how often sleep problems sit underneath or alongside anxiety, depression, and stress, and how overlooked sleep can be in modern life.

Alongside sleep focused work, Chloe provides therapy for a range of mental health concerns including anxiety disorders, depression, adjustment difficulties, emotional overwhelm, and the impact of long term stress. Her therapeutic style is collaborative, trauma-informed, and neuroaffirming, with a strong emphasis on creating a space that feels respectful, steady, and genuinely supportive.

Chloe is trained in a range of evidence based psychological therapies, including cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and dialectical behaviour therapy. She also values a humanistic and person-centred approach, recognising that each person’s story, history, and nervous system are different, and that therapy should be tailored rather than formulaic.

In addition to her work as a psychologist, Chloe is completing a Doctor of Medicine, with the longer term aim of working in psychiatry. This reflects an ongoing commitment to integrating psychological and medical perspectives, particularly in the treatment of complex mood disorders, sleep disturbance, and conditions that do not always respond to simple or single-pathway approaches.

At Somnus Psychology, Chloe aims to offer care that is grounded in science, guided by compassion, and paced in a way that feels manageable. The practice is built around the belief that rest, recovery, and emotional stability are not luxuries, but foundations for a meaningful and sustainable life.
