Clinic Director, Chloe Stone

Somnus Psychology was founded by Chloe Stone, a Hobart-based psychologist with a deep interest in the relationship between mental health, sleep, and neurobiological approaches to care. She works with adults and young people experiencing concerns such as insomnia, anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, chronic pain, and difficulties with mood, concentration, and emotional regulation.

Based in Hobart, Tasmania, Chloe brings a background that bridges psychology and medicine. Her experience spans private practice, neurodevelopmental assessment services, and neuropsychiatry research, shaping an approach that considers both the psychological and biological contributors to distress in a balanced and thoughtful way.

Chloe has developed particular experience in neuromodulation approaches, including transcranial magnetic stimulation and transcranial direct current stimulation. She has undertaken specialised training and worked clinically with individuals experiencing depression and more complex mood presentations, including those who have not found relief through standard treatments. This work now extends into Somnus Psychology, where transcranial direct current stimulation is offered as part of care, alongside psychotherapy, in a careful and considered way.

Sleep remains a central focus of her work. Chloe has a strong interest in the treatment of insomnia and broader sleep disturbance and is developing structured cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia programs through Somnus Psychology. This approach is widely regarded as the first-line psychological treatment for chronic insomnia and can be helpful for those who struggle with falling asleep, staying asleep, early waking, or persistent worry about sleep. This focus has grown from recognising how often sleep sits quietly beneath anxiety, low mood, and ongoing stress, yet is frequently overlooked.

Alongside sleep-focused work, Chloe provides therapy for a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, emotional overwhelm, and the longer-term effects of stress. Her style is collaborative, trauma-informed, and neuroaffirming, with an emphasis on creating a space that feels steady, respectful, and genuinely supportive.

She is trained in a range of evidence-based therapies, including cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and dialectical behaviour therapy. At the same time, her work remains grounded in a person-centred perspective, recognising that each individual’s experience is shaped by their own history, context, and nervous system, and that care should be responsive rather than prescriptive.

In addition to her work as a psychologist, Chloe is completing a Doctor of Medicine with the intention of moving into psychiatry. This reflects an ongoing commitment to bringing together psychological and medical perspectives, particularly in the care of complex mood presentations and sleep-related concerns.

At Somnus Psychology, Chloe offers care that is grounded in research, guided by compassion, and paced in a way that feels sustainable. The practice is built on the understanding that rest, recovery, and emotional steadiness are not luxuries, but essential foundations for a meaningful life.
