About Somnus Psychology | Sleep, Mood & Wellbeing in Hobart
Somnus Psychology is a Hobart based psychology practice created to support people with sleep difficulties, anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, and emotional wellbeing in a thoughtful, evidence informed, and deeply human way. The name Somnus comes from the Roman god of sleep, reflecting the central belief of the practice that rest is not a luxury, but a foundation for mental health, physical health, and everyday resilience.
Modern life often treats exhaustion as normal. Many people live for years with poor sleep, chronic stress, and emotional overload, without realising how deeply these experiences shape mood, cognition, relationships, and physical health. At Somnus Psychology, the aim is to help people restore steadier rest, clearer thinking, and a greater sense of balance using approaches that are grounded in science and tailored to the individual.
A core focus of the practice is the treatment of insomnia and sleep disturbance, including through CBT-i, or cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia, which is considered the first-line psychological treatment for chronic sleep problems. Alongside sleep-focused work, Somnus Psychology also supports people experiencing anxiety disorders, depression, adjustment difficulties, emotional overwhelm, and the long-term effects of stress and burnout.
Somnus Psychology is led by Chloe Stone, a Hobart based psychologist with a background that bridges psychology and medicine, and a strong interest in the integration of psychological and biological approaches to mental health. The practice also holds a longer-term vision to expand into neuromodulation based treatments for complex mood disorders, including treatment-resistant depression, in a careful, ethical, and person-centred way.
At its heart, Somnus Psychology is about creating a calm, respectful space where change can feel possible and recovery can unfold at a pace that feels manageable.

Our society suffers from a lack of sleep, and many of us accept this as normal. It doesn't have to be like this. At Somnus, we assist individuals in restoring their energy, cognitive function, mood, and overall vitality through evidence-based methods.
